Discussion: 2012 Reading Goals

I know I’m a little late with this, and I’ve also slacked on my weekly discussions. I’ll try to be more prompt this year.
Anyway…
This year I don’t really have many reading goals besides to hit 100 books. Before I had the baby I’d read between 170 – 200 books/year. Now that I have a baby I’ll be incredibly proud to hit 100 books again (I hit 101 in 2011 which shocked me, seeing as how I was deling with a newborn and cancer). My other book related goal is to do author interviews on my blog. Interviewing authors terrifies me, but I think it will be good for me to get out of my shell and get it done. My never-going-to-happen dream would be to have some publisher contact me this year and say, “Hey, Sarah, you are AMAZING. I want to pay you to do (insert some sort of job type thing here).” I won’t hold my breath for that to happen.
So what are your goals, hopes and dreams for book related happenings in 2012?

I have a writing goal to finish a novel this year. I have been working on shorter works, and I set several novels aside to do so. Now, I'm really hankering to finish my time travel historical. Just as soon as I finish this fairy tale retelling …

Haha. I am joining you in the never-going-to-happen dream. I've had that one for a while too!

I used to make a lot of goals, but I don't as much anymore since I just never kept them. Now I try to read/review 50 books a year (which seems to be about what I can manage while working at a full time job that takes a lot of mental energy). I also have a goal to read and review one book a month I haven't seen reviewed before, but we'll see how that goes. It doesn't take long before I often find myself just reading whatever I want when I make goals about what to read, but I'm hoping that's open-ended enough that it will stick!

Good luck with reading 100 books and doing interviews! I'm looking forward to seeing the interviews. 🙂

Always reading more, and increasing my range and diversity of reading.

The last few years, I've read between 40 and 55 books a year. Those are good numbers for me, I'd like to maintain that.

I'm aiming to read a minimum of 75 books this year, but I'm hoping for another 100, same as I managed in 2011. I want to keep up the few regular features I've established on my blog, maybe start a couple of others. I'd love to double my blog readership, too, and also do more author interviews.

I too would love a publisher to come along and offer me a job. Or even just to get some work as a freelance editor. Isn't likely to happen any time soon, if ever, but it sure would be nice!

200 books?! You're a speed reading machine! I'd struggle with a tenth of that this year.

't'would be nice to have a publisher stumble on our blogs and say "I like this. Want a job?". That'd be awesome.

I want to read more books in German (my mother language after all, and I think I read one (!) single book in it during all of last year) and French. And I want to keep up the book diary I started in October and make at least a brief post on every book I've finished reading on my blog (but of course I'm already four books behind…)

My goal is to read 4 particular series: Gene Wolfe's entire Solar Cycle (Book of the New Sun, Urth of the New Sun, Book of the Long Sun, Book of the Short Sun, and related short stories), the bulk of Tolkien's Middle Earth books (Children of Hurin, The Silmarillion, The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, and Unfinished Tales), GRRM's Song of Ice and Fire, and Sanderson's Mistborn books.

I read 51 new books, and reread 25 books last year. I hope I can at least read the 14 books on my "to-buy" list this year, but predict the ratio of new/old will change drastically. I have twins arriving in March/April, so…!
